Imma's Graduation Day

Graduation is one of the most important stages of one’s life! Imma’s graduation was on the 23rd of October. Yes, it’s been quite long since then, but I’m just getting sometime now to write. Imma did her LLB (Bachelor’s of Law), at Tumaini University in a city called Iringa. When she asked me to go with her, I truly did feel honored. I felt honored because she gave me an opportunity to accompany her to one of the most important days of her life. As it so happened, no one else could accompany her from home, so I was her main escort!

Now, I’ve lived in Tanzania for most of my life! But I don’t know Tanzania. I only know the city I grew up in, Dar es Salaam. In fact, I barely know Dar, so traveling to Iringa was a great way to know this country just a little more! We left Dar early Thursday (21 Oct) in the morning around 6.30 am and reached Iringa around 4 or 5 pm. Mode of Transport: BUS!

As planned, we didn’t take much time sitting around. As soon as we dropped our bags we began moving around! Imma just had to show me the city where she studied and spent 3 years of her life! I also met her sisters; one of them, Levina, actually picked us up from the bus stop. It was a brief but enlightening evening in Iringa… We finished the day with some Kitimoto (local name for Pork, which is quite popular) and took time to rest!

Friday, well Friday was all Imma. She went to introduce me to Cecilia (Cecy), one of her good friends. Then we finally went to her University. Here there was a couple of stuff she had to do, some procedures she had to complete. I also got a chance to meet some old friends of mine, people I had gone to school with! After the first university visit, we took some time to rest in the afternoon and returned to the University again so that she could collect her Graduation Gown and have a round of rehearsals!

This is how you'll wear the gown
This is where we'll be seated...

"Where are you honey?" That's the text she was sending...

Later that evening, we did take some time trying out the gown... ;)

How do I look?

Yes, WE tried the gown... ;)

Graduation Day: The Day began with us going to book the tickets, early in the morning for our trip, the following morning! We then went to prepare for the graduation and the result of that preparation was:  (Yes, I dressed Indian)
Heading to the graduation

A series of events preceded the actual ceremony. First, people had to arrive, then they had to meet,

-    then they had to take photos with some friends,

-    and then they had to go fix their gowns (Ladies… phew)

-    then they had to go take their class photo

-    then they had to line up and then march as the band played on
She was constantly on the phone keeping family posted...

-    then they had to listen (mostly they didn’t) to the speeches

-    then they, ok I’ll be specific here, Imma graduated!

The Adventure to Gangilonga:
Yes, it was her graduation, but Imma had to live up to her promise of taking me to a place called Gangilonga, a place she went to vent out her stress… I had heard so much about the place…

Well, this post just wouldn’t be complete without mentioning little Grace, who is Levina’s daughter. She’s gonna be breaking a lot of hearts with that smile… ;)
